FYI,I do not think there will be an evening meeting, the district must comply with a deadline set forth by the state. And the holiday weekend isn't much help.

Please Explain Budget Pass votes 1566 Fail votes 1692
Cucci votes 2107 Sturniolo votes 1898
A failed / no vote means you are unhappy with the budget and the direction the district is heading. The budget is put together and the district is run by the Board Of Education The BOE is made up of 5 members 2 of them the above named. How can you be happy with them as candidates and the job they are doing but not be happy with the budget they put together? Check my math Assuming the 1566 yes votes voted for the 2 candidates That would leave 541 no voters who voted against the budget yet support Mike Cucci and 332 no voters who voted against the budget but supported Ann Marie Sturniolo??
I’m thinking people just didn’t know what was going on but were told what to do. Where is the logic. And there in lies the problem. People don’t spend the time to figure things out to see if 1 + 1 = 2.

omega3, I am a little confused with your statement. If I read what you are saying correctly; you are stating that some people in Wantagh don't have a mind for themselves?
I believe that whomever wanted to be educated about the budget was and as for Cucci and Sturniolo I must admit at first glance I thought they were running against each other.

perhaps we should look at the TIME of the emergency meeting...9:00 A.M.....now why discuss such an important issue when such a large number of parents will be at WORK....is it becae the administration does not want to stay , is it not important enough to them...why does it not surprise me that people who can't figure out this meeting NEEDS to be held at night, can't balance a budget...

The BOE needs to bring this back for a re-vote. The budget was not approved by only 126 votes out of over 3000. The YES votes are rallying and ready to come back. We hope and pray that the BOE excercises their state-given right to bring this budget back to the voters. With only a 126 vote difference, the YES votes can rally and overturn the last vote. STAY TUNED....

loveforwantagh, if all of the yes voters were so concerned were where they yesterday?
It will be interesting to see if the BOE asks for a re-vote, since they insisted that they were not going to have a re-vote. It will also be interesting in see where the money ($10,000.) comes from.

They have to have a completion of business to the state by Wednesday morning. There are rules that the school is governed by. You can't make this stuff up,it happens to be official business, also, the holiday weekend doesn't work out well either.
I give all the board members a lot of credit,a thankless non-paying job, when everyone is happy and a tough spot to be in when people have gripes...Most people would not have the stomach for it and these people put in countless amounts of time...And they too are tax paying members of our community.

*If* the meeting has to be at 9 am, surely the district can have a notetaker and immediately report results on their website. If that is prohibitive because of Board of Ed rules, maybe the administration can designate a non-Board person to do that?
parentinwantagh, I think part of our problems is the confusion and lack of info.
roscoe, a BOE position is kind of a thankless, non-paying volunteer position that requires an enormous time commitment. As interested and vested as we are, there aren't that many of us who have the luxury of time to devote. It is therefore essential that the Board represent the community's collective best interests.
love, in reference to the community's best collective interests, *if* it goes for a re-vote I really really hope the board and admin are taking the time to try and understand exactly why it failed. There has been a lot of speculation here, to the point of touchiness. Honestly, I hope it's not a matter of the yes votes rallying. I hope it's a matter of trying to understand the community's concerns and coming up with a budget that works for all of us to avoid further divisiveness e.g., pro/con of the financial protection of state aid in a contingency scenario vs. without that in a re-vote.

I won't be able to attend the emergency meeting on Tuesday so I was wondering if this message board could post a summary of the meeting on this website because I am very interested in what gets discussed and what the future holds for our school district. Can we fund raise for certain sport teams? or does it go by season? Like all fall sports etc, and what about band etc.......where do we go from here???
Also, I was not aware that the BAC had any involvement in the teacher contracts; as per BAMPER "By the way, the BAC had a sub committee of people who looked at teacher contracts last year prior to negotiations with the teachers. The Board took many of those recommendations and used them." I'm curious as to the length of the contract? and who negotiates the administrators contracts? thanks to anyone who can answer these questions.

TO OMEGA3,PEOPLE WERE TOLD WHAT TO DO? We are all adults here and no one stood in voting booths with anyone else,I think your comment is ridiculous. I think people abstained because they might not have been educated enough. My neighbor is one of those people, she told me she could not make up her mind but decided she did not want to vote against it. So therefore abstained.
