You are right truthprevails, this is a democracy, but you know as well as I that this is a very PASSIONATE subject, the subject of our kids. No one is commanding high moral ground. We all have the same interest at heart. But some of this cruelty on this Blog especially from hightax is not acceptable. I do not think there are ANY easy solutions....And I think insensitivity by some will come back to haunt us all.... LETS WORK TOGETHER...

HighTax has brought up many issues which apparently the majority of voters can identify with. I think that it is important that the board start to listen to the vote and understand that we need to start thinking differently. The increase of $250 more a year is not the issue. The bigger issue is the perception that Wantagh can continue to afford these increases year after year and will do anything for the children. The message is that the bureacratic system needs a major overhaul. The expenses keep going up exponentially and people just can't afford these increases at this pace. We need to find new ways of increasing revenue and decreasing expenses, the budget needs to be built from the ground up. This board has been dominated by emotional pleas, and as parents we all understand. Yet there are many things that we want to provide to our children but may not always have the income to do so. I must admit I struggled with my voting decision and it was the "what about the children" attitude that made me realize that this will always be the cry of a vocal group, and we need to establish more business thinking for a fiscally responsible budget, it can not be based on emotion alone. We need to build a budget from the ground up that will allow our children the best education possible, and opportunities for the future, while maintaining a good quality of life in Wantagh. Yes, its sad and its scary that that we may need to give up things we have grown accustomed to, but its also sad and scary that people can not afford to live here anymore. I think its alot sadder when a child has to move after establishing life long friendships. We all want to be able to continue to live here and hope that our children will be able to come back and live here with their families as well. Why can't some of the activities be funded thru other means? Why is it assumed that every budget cut is going to impact the children? There are plenty of expenses in the budget that can be looked at without directly impacting the kids. Instead of focusing on "revotes", let's focus on developing new budget strategies that will put Wantagh in the forefront of positive and upfront innovative thinking. It's time for the educational system to break out of the box.

I have not read any "cruelty" on these pages. Also, what does "salaries also correlate with years of service" mean? It is the same in all districts. Note to adimistator of these pages: If individuals are out of line or show disrespect, address them directly.

What is done is done - lets begin to move forward.
I am looking forward to some SOLUTIONS (whether it be for this years budget or next) we are going to hear and see from our BOE and our community.

Sally, what did you mean by "I do not think there are ANY easy solutions"? Was that regarding the blog or the budget?
Another question "Taxed2death,don't be shy and join us when we review next years budget, maybe your new insight can help out.Thank You" Join the BAC or the BOE?

To ALL. A good community message board is defined by its members, not the internet software that allows it to exist or heavy-handed monitoring. This message board is a device for a community gathering similar to how we should be speaking to each other in person. Going forward, I'm encouraging all to participate in this thread: wantaghsd.proboards66.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=44Thank you.

Sally, I know who you were sending the message to - I am curious if you were asking them to join the BOE or BAC? I believe they are both open to the community and I think after this budget vote we should start asking the community to attend more of these meetings. I feel that we have to get the community more involved. Which I am sure you have tried get the community to be more involved, but maybe now the community will be more willing to atteding the different meetings.

Hi parentinwantagh, yes they should join us at the BAC,budget advisory committee and or BIC, bond implemetation committee. The BIC was formed I believe this year, as a community awareness group that can keep the community members informed thru the bond implementation processes..Many of the same members on the BAC are also on this committee.

Thank you for informing me about the BIC. Now if you don't mind me asking - (I have heard and from the few meeting that I attended) that the BOE hears what the BAC concerns are and either do not listen and make changes or are unable to make changes.
So my question and concer is although joining both meetings will keep me informed and upto date on different issues and concerns - how can we send a message to the community that these meeting are important to attend and that the BOE does everything in their power to make changes?
Another question - do I need to attend a # of meeting on either committee before I can speak my mind or vote for different things?

I am unclear what you mean the BOC? I haven't heard that abbreviation used..Maybe you can clarify this for me,thanks....We constantly try to send a message each year, but it ends up with same people every year, and maybe we all don't agree on every issue, but their is mutual respect outside of that venue,as it should be.The district calendar has the meetings and dates on it,and with our new e-board system,it should get out to the community even clearer.
You can speak up right out of the gate,or you might want to digest some info and then add your comments, either way join...I have seen many changes implemented over my 10 year tenure on the BAC..Of course everything is taken under consideration, but everyone has their own opinions as well...I look forward to your involvement.

There is a notice on the district website regarding a Budget Contingency Meeting Scheduled for Tuesday, May 27th at 9:00am at the high school. All are encouraged to attend. Hopefully an evening meeting will be added as well, for those of us who work and cannot attend during the day.
