Not for nothing, but this profile starts off by misleading the public, my understanding (confirmed by multiple sources) is he is disabled police officer.... "Retired Police Officer", that isn't the same as disabled, the major difference being, an individual that pays taxes vs one that is exempt from federal and state income tax. How does Tony relate to the hard working people of Wantagh?
Furthermore, how do you expect me to vote for someone that has not obtained a college degree and place them in charge of an educational system? IMO, this makes it blatantly obvious that Tony is not qualified for the position, end of story.
Third observation: "One issue Greco said he would like to explore if elected is whether adding full-day kindergarten in the district would be advantageous from an educational point of view and attainable from a fiscal standpoint." What is up with this feel good statement (sounds like: "maybe i will add full day kindergarden"), which does not show the voter the direction of his convictions, it's purely filler.
I'm anxiously waiting for the other two candidate profiles.

Hey Pat, Having a degree isn't the end all. Ever heard of Steve Jobs?
Maybe someone like Chris, who's been on the board, can tell us how many board members have had degrees compared to not having degrees (not looking for names).
You obviously don't support Tony Greco, I haven't heard enough about all the candidates yet to make a decision.
I don't think that this alone makes him unqualified. Seems you have your own issues.

Pat - how do you know he doesn't have a degree? Most police departments require at least an associates, and every cop I know has their bachelors.
I'm not clear on why his income tax filing status is at all relevant. Someone who was injured while in the line of duty can't read the community as well as an ivy league educated 1%-er? Nonsense.

First, wouldn't the article mention where he went to college before mentioning where he attended HS..... Furthermore, when people ask me (meaning the patch reporter) where I went to school, I always start with my most advanced degree, I'm sure Tony is no different. If you guys actually think having a degree is overrated, why do you tell you kids to strive for one!
Second, the fact that he and his wife are both out on disability and trying to cover up the fact, is questional behavor, which IMO shouldn't be associated our school district.

In my opinion,The school board members educations really not as important as them having common sense. The ability to care enough for everyone of the children. Why don't we take a poll on how many of them truly care as of now? Life lessons are sometimes the best lessons we can give our kids. My child will get a college degree but more importantly I hope he/she will grow up to be a good honest compassionate citizen. That is my opinion, My question is Why are we paying Robertaaa Kupietz 635.00 a day for 20 days of work and what college degree will get her that much money per day?

Look im totally with lynch, why strive for higher standard, let's settle for tony. Let's focus on other things, lets deceive our husbands, to believe tony is the right guy for the job. Any ideas, my husband is a attorney and believes we live in good neiborhood, how do I deceive him?

Pat2345. what are you talking about? I am not settling for anything. Because someone isn't formally educated doesn't mean they lack intelligence. (Bill Gates)as for how to deceive others I'm confused, I'm not sure how to do that!I have no experience there. but you might want to ask your husband (you did say he was an attorney right?)or one of the members of the Present BOE.
Why are we paying Roberta Kupietz 638.00 a day for 20 days? I don't have an degree but that is 12,770.00 for 20 days .

To Lynch I'm not sure of your reference to Bill Gates- But this was taken from his Bio "Bill Gates started studying at Harvard University in 1973 where he spent time with Paul Allen. Gates and Allen worked on a version of the programming language BASIC, that was the basis for the MITS Altair (the first microcomputer available). He did not go on to graduate from Harvard University as he left in his junior year to start what was to become the largest computer software company in the world; Microsoft Corporation. I don't believe that you would consider 3 years at Harvard as not having a formal education. I would consider it as not completing one.

Lynch, I'm not sure who Roberta Kupietz is, but considering the vast majority of teachers are making over $100,000 per year and work 180 days (which costs about $555 per day), I don't think $638 seems that high! Note: if this person is a consultant, they aren't receiving benefits, so the $638 might be cheap.
BTW, did I read this correctly, did Wantagh90 and Lynch actually compared Tony to Steve Jobs and Bill Gates. Well I guess this explains why they would settle for an uneducated/unqualified BOE Trustee, as for me I have much higher standards. BTW, if an education is overrated, why do we require our teachers to obtain one, why do we encourage them to continue their education by obtaining advanced degrees?

hate feeding this off-thread issue, but for closure: as per the district website: Dr. Roberta Kupietz (Ph.D) is a district psychologist and Chairperson of the Committee on Pre-School Special Education. she has had other roles in the district in the past. www.wantaghschools.org/184010102212434683/site/default.asp - (info is dated 2009)

Luckily, Wantagh has two viable candidates instead of voting for Tony Greco. I will not be voting for Tony Greco for the following reasons: 1) Not forthcoming about disability retirement status 2) Didn’t have much (anything?) to contribute in BAC meetings, nor a voice 3) Lack of education credentials and/or some sort of evidence of leadership 4) A particular BOE trustee supports him.
I (angrily) approached this particular BOE trustee before the budget hearing to thank him for “scr#@ing the arts kids another year”. His response was, and I quote, “anytime” followed by a promise to do the same for years after that. In my years of advocating for kids within Wantagh, never have I felt such obvious vengeance against a type of kid or the adults that advocate for them that I did that night. And ideally, I want none of that BS in a decision-making role that affects kids. Of note, I also approached school administrators similarly that night and nope, I felt no vengeance from them.
As mom says, ‘you are the company you keep’… Just follow the trail of ‘paid for by family & friends’ lawns signs to determine which trustee I’m talking about. Sorry mom about my choice of words that night, lol.
Gee, one has to wonder why this particular BOE trustee would support such an unqualified candidate. Enough is enough, time for more change on the BOE.

tired, it was the trustee with the longest amount of time on the BOE. Please look in your private messages at the top of the screen.
