Why would a higher education be an OPTION in a board member??? They are running a SCHOOL district. We are requiring our teachers and administrators to have at least a masters degree, yet the board members, who serve just as an important role can have no higher education? Why can't we get someone who is educated and help teach our kids "life lessons"? Why must we settle? Remember, our board helps decide a multi-million dollar budget! There are serious decisions to be made. I am sure if you go to top districts like Jericho and Rockville Centre, the boards there are made-up of educated professionals. We elect someone because they are nice or have the most lawn signs and then sit around and bellyache about why we aren't nationally ranked on some US News list. Wake-up! We need god leadership! We have lost two superintendents in the last year. You don't think the board has anything to do with that? Don't you think a highly intelligent, educated super wants to work with a board with the same qualities? On another note DR. kupietz has a doctoral degree. Everyone needs to stop complaining about the salaries here. We DO NOT pay that well compared to other districts and that is another issue when it comes to holding onto top administrators. The teachers make an AVERAGE salary for Long Island. In my experience, the teachers here are great. They go above and beyond and work beyond their scheduled day and school year! They are not the problem! They may be our only saving grace at this point!

Luckily, Wantagh has two viable candidates instead of voting for Tony Greco. I will not be voting for Tony Greco for the following reasons: 1) Not forthcoming about disability retirement status 2) Didn’t have much (anything?) to contribute in BAC meetings, nor a voice 3) Lack of education credentials and/or some sort of evidence of leadership 4) A particular BOE trustee supports him. I (angrily) approached this particular BOE trustee before the budget hearing to thank him for “scr#@ing the arts kids another year”. His response was, and I quote, “anytime” followed by a promise to do the same for years after that. In my years of advocating for kids within Wantagh, never have I felt such obvious vengeance against a type of kid or the adults that advocate for them that I did that night. And ideally, I want none of that BS in a decision-making role that affects kids. Of note, I also approached school administrators similarly that night and nope, I felt no vengeance from them. As mom says, ‘you are the company you keep’… Just follow the trail of ‘paid for by family & friends’ lawns signs to determine which trustee I’m talking about. Sorry mom about my choice of words that night, lol. Gee, one has to wonder why this particular BOE trustee would support such an unqualified candidate. Enough is enough, time for more change on the BOE. I'd also like to know who this is. Also, who is at fault for refusing to work with the money we were offered for full day K and who is it who decides things like paying the Horizons teacher to grade tests? Is it the BOE the members we elect or is it people like the Superintendent, who are paid to do a job? I'm confused about who to 1) blame 2) bark to 3) make sure don't have jobs

Superintendents are district management responsible for goals and smooth running of day to day. BOE's are supposed to be policy only although I suspect they may be more hands on than they should be in Wantagh. I suspect with a big ticket item like full day Kind, a super may propose it, but unless the BOE is behind it, it def isn't going to happen so more BOE in this case. Conversely, if the BOE wants it, the supers would make it happen.
Check your private messages on the top of the page. As stated in another post, the Horizons stipend stumps me. I can't imagine that specific incidence being a contract clause written in for one person but could be wrong on that.
