As many as 50 people each day are still combing the dense redwood forests in Mendocino County, California looking for the suspect who has been charged with murdering Wantagh native Matthew Coleman (45) and former Fort Bragg mayor and councilman Jere Melo, by ambushing them with a rifle in separate incidents in August. Searchers include County Sheriff's officers, California State Police, the FBI and U.S. Marshals. The suspect is one Aaron Bessler, 35, described as mentally ill and heavily armed, who has lived in the forest for several years. One recent quote on the manhunt's lack of success: “Everybody's nervous. You see a lot of pistols and rifles coming out of the closets now....” Story: www.pressdemocrat.com/article/20110923/ARTICLES/110929697/1033/sitemapsI have spoken with Peter King's office about this ongoing episode. There will be a memorial service in Wantagh next month for Matt Coleman. Hoping for closure on this tragedy, Chris Wendt
