The Board of Trustees of the Wantagh Public Library will meet tonight, Monday, July 20th, at 7:00 PM in the Library. Although the Public Library is a subsidiary of the Wantagh School District, the school district does not control or operate the library.
However, the Wantagh Public Library has property taxing authority, and as such, it 'competes' with the school district for our affection and for our tax dollars. If the Library Trustees are not using our tax dollars efficiently, that creates stress on the overall Wantagh property tax structure which could negatively impact the school district's efforts to have the public pass future school budgets.
I think it is about time we learn what is going on with the Library Trustees and with our Public Libraray...and those tax dollars we've paid to operate and maintain a public library facility in keeping with the standards of our community.
Hope you can make this meeting...

The August meeting was well attended by a near-capacity audience in the community room. The tenor and tone of the meeting were respectful, cordial. The meeting ran about 2 hours, including a presentation of a Facilities Needs Assessment Report from an architectural firm which had been engaged to review the facility, very similar to the school district facilities evaluation.
There was a well-ordered public comment period after the agenda was completed, and all present who wished to speak were accommodated.
Among the first orders of business was the introduction of the head of the Nassau County Library System and one of her staffers. The County Library System will be working with the Wantagh Library Board to furnish training, staff development, and other key resources.
Many residents are still aggrieved by the lack of resolution of the Library Director's situation which is now before the County Civil Service Commission. Petition was circulated and presented to the Board requesting reinstatement of the Director, who remains suspended from his duties. The Board has indicated that they intend to let the Civil Service Commission proceedings play out to a determination of the case. The next hearing date has reportedly been adjourned to an unspecified date.
Mrs. Quinn and Mr. Russack were in attendance, as were my fellow former BoE members Mr. Wagner and Mr. Citarrella, all of us with offers and intentions of support for the Library Board.
************************************************************************
It is clear that the Library Board could hit a grand slam home run if only they could resolve the conflict between themselves and the Director, patch-up that relationship, and re-instate the Director to his position. I think this may be as banal as a personality conflict among one former board member and one present board member on the one hand, and, the Director, on the other hand. If true, what a shame that would be!
It is rumored that the former board member recently gave SIX (6) HOURS of TESTIMONY AGAINST THE LIBRARY DIRECTOR!!! Six hours of testimony by a former library board member against the Director of the Library sounds a whole lot like spite work, or, the kind of testimony someone would give against a MASS MURDERER! Since there have not been any serial killings in the library, I think it is more likely to have been spite work!
You should recognize that having the Library's lawyer prepare and moderate SIX HOURS OF TESTIMONY from a sanctimonious witness with a personal ax to grind...cost the taxpayers of the Wantagh School District TENS OF THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS!!![/i][/color] The Library's budget for legal fees has been blown by triple, and the expenses continue to mount...all the while the Library itself founders for lack of an effective, professional library director.
This is just so wrong-headed!
