24/7 Wall Street published a report listing the largest employer in each of the 50 states. State and City governments were excluded, as were K-12 public schools. I read the report both with astonishment and with a pen in hand and piece of paper on my desk with which I kept a sort of score. Here are my observations: - In 20 states, one, single employer is the largest: Wal-Mart!
- In 14 states, that state's University system is the largest employer.
Included in this group is NY, where SUNY is the largest employer - In 10 states, 10 different healthcare providers are the largest employer
- In 2 states, a supermarket or grocery chain is the largest employer
- in 2 states, manufacturing companies are the largest employers
One of those companies make airplanes, the other makes jet engines for those airplanes - In one state, Alaska, the (Anchorage) airport is the largest employer
- In one state, Nevada, a gambling casino is the largest employer
Oh, the inferences for the future...for the future of our children and grandchildren! Astounded.... Chris Wendt chriswendt117@gmail.com
