Congratulations and my personal best wishes to Maureen Appiarius as she moves her career along to Garden City. We were fortunate to have had her expertise here in Wantagh.
But this begs the question, for the umpteenth time, why does the Wantagh BoE feel the perpetual need to employ three big-dollar administrators, especially in the face of declining enrollment, and other challenges which will be competing with bloated administrative salaries & benefits costs for our tax dollars? Food for thought, two alternatives which should have been considered before lavishing this latest appointment on a new Assistant Superintendent for Instruction: - Re-organize the top leadership from the perennial Superintendent-plus-2-Assistant Superintendents, to a new, streamlined organization consisting on a Superintendent and a Deputy Superintendent.
- ...or, share the services of two Assistant Superintendents with Seaford, so that each district would pay half the cost of one Assistant Superintendent for Instruction, and half the cost of one Assistant Superintendent for Business.
It is not too late to start thinking and planning (and discussing this with the Seaford Board of Education) how we can trim our bloated executive organization and its insanely high costs, especially for our little, tiny—and still shrinking—school district.
Good luck to the new guy, even though I am positive he is not really needed here on a full-time, full cost basis. Ever hopeful, Chris Wendt
