Here's an example of cross-border cooperative Sci-Tech program development, coupled with concerted, meaningful financial support efforts. My friend, Mitch Weiner, has just been elected to the Board of Friends of Israel Sci-Tech Schools. Link to the Announcement of Mitch Weiner's Appointment to the Board of Friends of Israel Sci-Tech Schools.Link to Friends of Israel Sci-Tech Schools: Who We Are.For reference, in 2012 (the latest year for which data is publicly available) Friends of Israel Sci-Tech Schools raised $1.038 Million, and after expenses (including disbursements to program beneficiary schools) of $581K, realized a net asset gain of $456K to be used for sustaining and future programs. Link to 2012 IRS Form 990, Financials, Guide Star Report for Friends of Israel Sci-Tech Schools. I am viewing this as, among several things, an excellent opportunity to source well-educated scientific and technological job candidates (read: engineers) for the future of the company for which I work.
I wanted to post this as yet another example of NYC-based educational initiatives which finance or encourage, or stand themselves as real competition for future Wantagh alumni for real jobs, here in The City. What does Wantagh have to compare? What real-life, scientific-technological educational consortium does Wantagh BELONG TO?Thoughts? Chris Wendt

Some readers may have recognized Mitch Weiner's name, as having sponsored a major fund-raising event in NYC for the Cornell-Technion Institute, which I featured in the Academics blog in April, under the title: "Huge Academic Investments in NY City" (link *FIXED* to original post). That post concluded with a call-to-action for the Wantagh School District: "The Wantagh School District needs to be aware of these game-changing developments in our region....This is a call for academic leadership for the FUTURE!" ...and carried these two cautionary statements to Wantagh parents: - Parents need to be asking:
"Where is Wantagh going with Science, Technology, Engineering and Math ("STEM") Education and Research opportunities?" ...for YOUR kids?
- ...and,
"With whom is Wantagh going to partner to provide the best of STEM experiences and opportunities?" ...for YOUR kids?
Anybody...?
