You have undoubtedly heard that Dave Denenberg has dropped out of the race for NY State Senate after being sued for mail and wire fraud. I have read the complaint filed with the court, and this does not look good for Dave. Presently, this is not a criminal matter, but rather a civil suit seeking monetary damages from Dave.
I am left to seriously wonder why Dave has pursued his campaign for the State Senate given that he knew of the allegations for some time, and had effectively been fired by his law firm months ago over this.
Dave was a tireless worker for our community and County. This is a sad day, especially if the allegations prove true. People are already calling on Dave to resign as our County Legislator, and I personally think he should. However, because he is a duly elected representative, he cannot be forced to resign unless he is charged and convicted of a felony. That is in order to protect the rights of the voters from political games, although this does not appear to be some political game being played on Dave. Regardless, Dave's current term in the Legislature expires after next year.
That having been said, I am now left to gag at the thought of Michael Venditto becoming our State Senator.
Thoroughly disgusted.
