On Tuesday evening I was sitting out on the deck with my granddaughter having a conversation. She is five and in her last few days of Kindergarten. She was wishing she could have her teacher, Mrs. Moore, again, next year. We discussed why it is good to change teachers as you move up through school, and she seemed to understand. Then I asked her a question: If Kindergarten is the first year of school, then why do they call First Grade "First" grade? Without pausing, she replied: "Because First Grade is a higher level, and that's why it's called a "Grade", and it's the first one." I followed up with a comment: "You sure know a lot of things!" Acknowledging, she stated: "That's my thing...to know everything!" I did mention that she is five years old.
"That's my thing...to know everything!" The motto of a five year old about to enter First Grade.
Proud to be her Pa!
