Not sure I even have the words for this one...that's some message you're sending to the kids in the school. It's just flat out embarrassing - the act of plagiarism and the explanation/excuse is just a really poor example for someone in that position. If a kid did what this guy did they would be in pretty big trouble, I guess we'll see how it plays out. If he is in fact a good principal you'd hate to see one really dumb act ruin his career but I have a funny feeling his union reps will keep him well protected if he is actually a good administrator (or even if he's not) and life will go on. longisland.news12.com/news/roosevelt-h-s-principal-dr-steven-strachan-accused-of-plagiarizing-message-to-graduating-seniors-1.8480345

I understand the temptation to put a good face on this incident. But plagiarism is a dishonest act. Perhaps the Roosevelt Principal did have permission to use the words in question, but if that is true, then he should have ascribed those words to the actual author and put them in quotation marks.
You are correct, probably nothing will come of this, other than some kids being legitimately disappointed that their own principal did not have a few good words of his own for them.
Given the persistently low graduation rates in Roosevelt, those who survive the gauntlet and earn their diplomas should get real pat on the back from their school principal. Those who do not graduate probably should not receive year books, and should not have to concern themselves with how or what their principal feels about them. Without their diplomas, they will "have a hard row to hoe", to borrow the apt words of L.N. Fowler (American Prenological Journal, Article XXXII, Volume X, No. VI, New York, May 22, 1848).
Just saying...
