Amid massive dissatisfaction with the Common Core tests designed by Pearson, the NY Senate is considering legislation to end our 5-year, $35 Million deal with that British company. Simultaneously, there is a groundswell of NY school districts refusing to take part in the Field Testing of the next editions of Pearson-developed Common Core ELA & Math Assessments for Grades 3 through 8, this month.
While I think that officially boycotting the Field Tests is wrong headed on the part of school boards, I understand the rationale and the undercurrent of negative popular opinion towards anything (in NY) Common Core. THAT whole phenomenon, INCLUDING HOW WRONG-HEADED and strong the anti-CC movement has become can be blamed squarely upon NY Commissioner of Education John King and his Puppet Master, Regents Chancellor Merryl Tisch for utterly blowing the CC Assessments in 2013. They are now reaping a whirlwind! Regards, Chris Wendt Source for Pearson story (link)here.
