There was a lot of conversation yesterday about the security measures in place on the Wantagh High School campus. TV and print news coverage featured several very reasonable and responsible statements from students and others. Newsday was looking for quotes, but encountered a general lack of response to their requests. I spoke with several parents by phone, and encountered mixed reactions to the procedures, but a common feeling that it would not be beneficial to the district/community/school, etc. to be making anything of this, publicly, in the paper.
I agree. Security matters, though intrinsically important to every student and their parents, are best left to professionals to deal with...professionally, and for the most part, out of the public eye.
