...in schools across Florida. "By the beginning of the 2015-16 academic year, the Legislature is requiring that all adopted instruction materials for grades kindergarten through 12 be provided in an electronic or digital format." One of Florida's better school districts, St. Johns County, is launching a self-funded pilot program, beginning in a few selected schools this year, and continuing to build for the next four years. iPads and laptops will be provided by the district to all students in the pilot. Note that they have already built one brand new, 100% digital learning school, in St. Augustine. "Palencia Elementary School, built as a digital school and opened last year, will begin receiving more laptops this February and March.
'The reason Palencia is a little different is we opened it with the presumption of full digital delivery. We only had the money to do two students to one device. We’ve certainly learned something with that pilot program since it opened last year,' Joyner said." This school district had 31,020 students in 2010, roughly ten times the enrollment of Wantagh. It is reportedly one of the fastest growing districts in the state. Check out the article in the St. Augustine Record (link). Regards, Chris Wendt P.S. - the Common Core (Assessment) is scheduled to start in Florida next school year, as it was originally supposed to, here, in New York.
