...at the Common Core...and at Commissioner King. Read the story on Newsday dot com(link). A "Vote of No-Confidence" by the largest union in the state against the Commissioner of Education has no force or effect in law or policy. Could it cause King to resign? Probably not, unless he takes a good, long look in the mirror on the morning after he receives it. Could it cause the Regents to ease him out? Probably not, unless they first replace Meryl Tisch as their Chancellor. Could this give impetus to our Governor and Legislative Leaders to change the state law and postpone implementation of the Common Core Assessments and de-couple those assessments from teacher evaluations? That would be a coin toss, and the coin toss would probably land tails-up and nothing would result; unless the coin lands heads-up, and then they could change the law. I hope John King eventually leaves his post as Commissioner. This is a sure thing, because they all do, eventually, right? But I truly hope this will be his last school year as Commissioner. For supporters of the Common Core, King's obstinate 'bunker mentality' and his ham-handed handling of the assessments are destroying the promise for your kids. For detractors of the Common Core, King is an excellent poster boy for whatever you want to blame on the Common Core. The sooner King is removed as poster-boy & Commissioner, the better off will be education in NY State. That is my opinion. Chris Wendt
