Many who follow the subject of the Common Core have probably seen the viral video of the High School student crushing the Common Core: www.youtube.com/watch?v=PprP5TCZBRIIts been posted on the popular Wantagh Facebook group by several of the members...I found this interesting article breaking down the arguments the young man made - as I've been saying, the rhetoric and conspiracy theories are far more fun to spew than actually looking at the facts...take a look at this breakdown of this impassioned but flawed speech. www.peachpundit.com/2014/01/06/an-epic-takedown-of-an-epic-takedown-of-common-core/Happy New Year to all.

Interesting from the perspective of the reach and scope of the breadth and depth of the Common Core discussion in America. As the gentleman from Tennessee observes near the end of his soliloquy, "You cannot ignore me; you cannot ignore my teachers!" We (all) are thereby forewarned.
Forewarned...of what?
Bridge Out Ahead! Go Back!
(But Commissioner King and Chancellor Tisch, in anticipation of that message, have made it clear that there is no going back. At least as long as they both remain in office).

I don't think CC is going away whether King and Tisch remain or not. NY, with its standing in NAEP tests would look like idiots to back out of what 40something+ states have opted into to elevate learning standards.
The initial pain has been done. Growing pains, compounded by the grossly dysfunctional changeover (too many mistakes to list here) is done. Heads may roll bc of it, but I doubt CC is going away.

NY should not "back out" of CC, just get back in-sync' with it...and revert to the PARCC schedule for implementing the CC Assessments a year from now. I do not think that will happen, however.
But you are correct, the damage has been done. The system, the kids, the teachers...will all recover over time.
My hope is that King is replaced, soon. My fondest hope is that both King and Tisch get booted together, and soon. That won't undo the damage they caused, or cancel the risk they brought upon the viability of the entire CC Concept, but it will remove two incompetent ideologues from positions which have empowered them to do more harm than good. I also believe that it would be act of justice, firing King and Tisch.
I wonder if Common Core Assessments will be a factor in the mid-term Congressional elections this year?
