Hewlett advanced science research program is done despite tight budget (link to Newsday dot com article)It all boils down to where your priorities* are, and who has the know-how to get it done. Yes, repeat national grand prize champion teams from Hewlett was a real feat, but, let's not forget that homeless girl from Brentwood High, speaking of getting it done...despite great odds. * Priorities: - Educational opportunities
- Building meaningful, ongoing educational programs leading to attainment of higher education and real jobs
- Where and how (and on whom) you spend our tax dollars.
Do we lack the know-how in Wantagh? Or we just don't want it bad enough? Back to the article. Years ago we hired Bob Black, PhD, as Department Chair to bring Wantagh up to speed for these competitions. Bob developed health issues and was never replaced, Wantagh never did get up to speed for Intel or Siemens or Westinghouse (then). But we sure went through plenty of Superintendents and Assistant Superintendents, didn't we? You got to be in it to win it! Chris Wendt
