State Senator John Flanagan is reacting, as I had forecast, to the really crappy Common Core Assessment results in the school districts he represents. Flanagan, Chair of the State Senate Education Committee is proposing changes in testing and in the implementation of the Common Core Assessments. In keeping with the spirit of the season, I will refrain from editorializing further about either the Common Core Assessments or Flanagan's legislative initiatives. He is holding a news conference at 11:00 this morning at Suffolk Community College's Brentwood campus, where his plan will be vetted. Read the article in Newsday dot com (link). I have personally known and worked with John Flanagan over the years. He is an excellent legislator and a very effective advocate for public education, hence his chairmanship of the Senate Education Committee. It would dismay me greatly if he ends up losing his seat in Albany due to the CC backlash. Regards, Chris Wendt
