many, according to BOE minutes, the following teachers were excessed and put on the preferred eligibility list - Horan, Shevlin and Zipfel. Unless it has been reduced, my understanding is that there were 4 teachers between Beech and Mandalay. Does anyone know who the 4th was?

Mrs. Herb will be out on LTD for the 08/09 year. Maybe they are not replacing her for the year and using that absence as one of the 4? Does anyone know if she is ok? Why does she need to be out on LTD for a year?

According to what has been posted by taxed2death, Zipfel is one of the teachers being excessed. I'm just curious if that is confirmed as she is the 5th grade inclusion teacher at Forest Lake, and as of the final presentation regarding the cutting of teachers, there were no teachers cut at Forest Lake. Are 5 teachers now being cut, or has the BOE changed their plans regarding where the teacher cuts are happening?

I am wondering that also what does preferred eligibility mean? Zipfel is FL, does that mean FL is going down to 3, 5th grades in Sept?? Or is a more senior teacher coming to FL from anther school?

Maybe they had to come up with X # of teachers among the 3 schools and plan on re-organizing or reassigning? So, it still may be 2 from Beech and 2 from Mandalay, but we probably won't know that for sure until they post the class schedules in August (assuming FL and Mandalay do that too) and see how they handled it.
Also, the plan is all the inclusion classes are supposed to be at Beech. Each year, they add another grade level at Beech that is inclusion. They must be up to either the 4th or 5th grade for 08/09.
It is my understanding the preferred eligibility means that should a position open up, those on the preferred eligibility list are called first if they want the job.

As it stood at the end of the school year, the 5th grade inclusion class at Forest Lake was the last class there. This way the children would not have to move in their last year. If that has changed and those children are being moved to Beech street, I don't believe that it has been announced to the school community. But since I don't have a child in the inclusion program I could be mistaken and those parents may have been notified.

The 5th grade inclusion class will be at forest lake next year. Next year is the last year for inclusion classes at Forest Lake.

So does that mean there is going to be (3) sections at Forest Lake with approx. 27 kids in each section, including the inclusion class. Or are they bringing in another teacher to replace Zipfel to bring it back to (4) sections.

For the kids you are correct in saying that their will be sections with 27 kids in each class. That will include your inclusion kids

Does anyone know how and when this change of plans took place, since we were told at the Contingency Planning meeting that it was (2) teachers from Mandalay and (2) from Wantagh E and that those teachers had already been notified. How does this change effect those schools? I know that we will all be making sacrifices next year, but how can taking an inclusion class to 27 students not be counter productive to what they are trying to accomplish in that classroom.

Forthekids - I believe there will still be 4 5th grade sections at Forest Lake next year. Certain teaching positions were excessed, but some of those teachers will be returning in leave replacement positions. It would be best for you to call Dr. Begley for the exact information regarding teacher placements.
