Southampton and Hampton Bays each were unable to field complete teams, apparently as the result of infractions of their Codes of Conduct, and separately forfeited their last football games of the season. Read the story on Newsday (link). Three on-field fights involving six LI HS football teams each resulted in games being called either by the referees or the visiting team coach. Malverne at Island Trees, Amityville at Comsewoque , and Lindenhurst at Half Hollow Hills all ended prematurely. Read this story in Newsday also (link). While NOT involving Wantagh, these reports do not help garner or maintain public support for high school sports, including financial (budgetary) support. Fights also give some parents legitimate concern about the prospect of their (Wantagh) student athletes perhaps having to compete against any of these teams in the future. I am personally a very strong supporter of High School Sports. But I am not what you would call a blind supporter, and neither should you be. Food for thought. Chris Wendt
