I have often talked of my cousin Lauren Dunne Astley who was murdered two years ago on July 3rd. Her story and a town's response to educating teens on dating violence is covered on the front page of CNN's website today. I'm asking all my educator friends who deal with teens and those of you with dating children to read this article. We all need to be vigilent. www.cnn.com/2013/06/25/living/bystander-education-dating-violence/index.html?hpt=hp_t1

The attachment you provided was a very worthwhile read.
Thanks for posting this, Carolann. It is very distressing to hear of such tragedies.
This and related topics (suicides, accidental overdoses, misadventure, bullying, and the list goes on) are so vitally important, critically important, in the development and lives of adolescents. Two places provide the best venues for addressing any of these topics: home and school.
I suspect that schools may be too easily distracted from dealing proactively with some of these issues (meaning, before a school or school district is forced to confront a tragic loss of life) by the mounting dual pressures of performing (teaching) to produce testing outcomes, and, having to make-do with continuously decreasing resources.
Sincerely
Chris Wendt
