...public schools in Cleveland. CBS News carried this story last night (hyperlink to html)Don't shoot the messenger! I am not advocating about this. But there it is, for your information. Google "Cleveland Charter Schools" and you will also find a major corruption scandal from earlier this year, involving embezzlement by Board members of a different Charter School organization in Cleveland. The good, the bad, and the ugly. The CBS report also mentions that closed school buildings in Cleveland are being re-opened and re-purposed by the (good) Charter Schools operator. Better than building condos, I suppose? My interest in this subject goes beyond the current models of Charter Schools in majority minority urban areas, in pockets of poverty, and primarily addressing "failed" public schools in those areas. I am thinking about future charter or regional or magnet (specialized) schools in areas where the public schools are NOT "failing", but neither are they able to offer what parents and students want in ways that taxpayers will pay for. The underlying concept in my mind's eye is "competition" with your average, but expensive, financially inefficient, hamstrung public school districts. Like in 3-5 years from now, here, in southeast Nassau County for instance. Chris Wendt
