I totally agree with Chris. Dana is a tremendous asset that we are losing. Our loss is Garden City's gain. We will miss her abilities at all levels. Wishing her continued success.

Certainly readers will recognize that we "lost" Dana some time previous to this announcement, as she had already been offered and has only recently accepted the position in Garden City by the time the announcement was made public.
Recruiting a school district business official, especially in well-heeled district like GC is quite an involved process. In addition, other than with Pat Krizan, I do not know of a single such event in the past 30 years where the (losing) Board of Education was unaware of any administrator having been under active consideration for some time prior to an offer having been made, so that due diligence could be performed, references checked, and so forth by the hiring district.
Of course, in some such instances, there are back-and-forth discussions perhaps attempting to save the relationship or even the situation, and maybe to change the course of events. Counter-offers, and the like have sometimes been made. But then there is always that Moment of Truth when the outgoing administrator gives their Final Answer, accepts the new offer, and moves on.
I think it is a real tribute to Dana's professionalism and her loyalty to the Wantagh School District that she saw us through some very difficult times which had to have been extremely stressful for her, personally. Wantagh has truly benefited from her service and guidance over the years. Garden City has made a wonderful choice for their Business Official in selecting Dana.
We now face a real situation, here with Dana's departure. I think our new Superintendent, above everyone else in the entire District, but also to an unprecedented degree our two new, incoming Board of Education Trustees must, MUST step up and step in to right the Good Ship Wantagh as we enter a new school year, and end not just another old school year, but hopefully end an embarrassing several years of what has unfortunately become an all-too-widely known, real, bad, joke: Wantagh's revolving door.
Let's pray for the healing to begin, right now.
