I was about to publish the next installment of my blog, "Bad News on the Doorstep", this coming edition dealing specifically with pension costs. In the course of researching and writing it, I had more than one epiphany about this subject. I expect to post it on Patch over the weekend or early Monday morning.
However, and to the point of the revelations I mentioned, there was this item in the news today:
US Ranks 19th in Worldwide Retirement Security (hyperlink to Pensions & Investments Daily)
I posted the following comment, in reply:
Anyone else care to have that conversation?

The general public is quick and consistent in their criticism of defined benefit pensions provided to teachers in public schools. I think the real criticism should be reserved for the situation reported (in the article), that the U.S. ranks only 19th in worldwide retirement security. This is a reflection mostly of want of foresight which facilitated bad public policy resulting in our overall lack of retirement security for the masses of American people.
We Baby Boom people are ready to retire, and many of us cannot afford to. So we remain in the work force, occupying positions, jobs, which younger people should be in, supporting their own young families, and working toward their own affordable retirement.
So, when does "conversation", the "global discussion about these issues" begin? I am ready to participate in it.
Anyone else care to have that conversation?
Regards,
Chris Wendt
