Joseph Tutaj, 15, (hyperlink to report) died at a California hospital while away on a Seaford High School band trip. He complained of a fever, did not feel well enough to fly home, and was taken to the ER. The following additional information was published in Newsday & Patch: The student's father, Robert Tutaj, 56, who is battling stage four cancer, described his 6-foot, 2-inch-tall son as a "gentle giant" who had worked hard to support his family during a difficult period in their lives.
The Tutajes were flooded out of their Seaford home during superstorm Sandy and have been living temporarily in Bethpage. This is certainly a family that can use our help, including prayers. With a heavy heart, Chris Wendt
