Contributor RR asked in another thread:
"Would love to understand more of the details behind these numbers. Are the auditors findings / reports ever made public? "
Answer, yes,if you live in Seaford. See www.seaford.k12.ny.us/Page/3055 but skip the extra classroom activity report. Download and save the other two.
Then go to: www.seaford.k12.ny.us/Page/3056 and find the Auditors Report Archive and get the last 4 years reports from R. S. Abrams.
Read and compare at your leisure. This is the same audit firm used by Wantagh, so you will get an excellent idea of the organization and presentation used. Then you could call the Wantagh Business Office and ask how you can obtain and review Wantagh's Audit Reports for similar periods.
There are other types of audits as well, including those conducted by the Comptroller of the State of New York; those done by the Internal Claims Auditor; and those performed by the Internal Audit firm of the district's internal financial controls. But start with the R.S. Abrams External Audits.
Note: when reading the Seaford Audits, see how the reports are supposed to be public information; then, if Wantagh tries to charge you a fee to get theirs, you can be prepared with reason why they are not due a fee for a report that is intended to be a public document. If they tell you the fee is a copying charge, then tell them to put the reports on the website, you know, in accordance with the Public Officers Law changes in 2012.
I mean, if you are really, really interested in learning this stuff.
If you happen to get a copy from Wantagh, feel free to contact me at chriswendt117@gmail and I may be able to help you understand it. At least I will try.
