The Seaford Board of Education last night voted to postpone the public referendum to sell the Seaford Avenue School scheduled for Tuesday, 10-16. This was due to the fact that the Board had not insisted on revising the Contract to properly reflect the terms of the sale that had been negotiated with the developer after the contract had been signed. Those terms included adding restrictions on 55+ age, no school-aged children, no rental units, and purchases to be first offered to Seaford residents and their parents. (The developer plans to build 112, 2-bedroom condo units with a community center and pool). The vote may be delayed until January. This is cautionary tale for any school board wanting to play fast and loose with important contracts. Wantagh's former counsel, Chris Venator of Ingerman, Smith was mentioned in the Patch article.
