Are you thinking the district has hired a special counsel to investigate Mel? You are entitled to think that, of course. Just as I am entitled to think as I do.
Interesting that you quipped about my hobbies in your first post, here.
My real hobby is photography. I got a Nikon camera, I love to take photographs....
What's your main hobby? What's your name?
I'm Chris Wendt. Welcome to here. You can call me Chris.

Mel was reinstated (pending a passing mental health eval) yesterday 9/21/12. That is documented in TV news accounts - count the number of TV news crews (and pro/against protesters) up at the secondary complex yesterday. The likelihood of the BOE waiting a week to deliver that news to Mel (and the community) is, well pretty much, ZERO.
The BOE minutes for an employee that is put on suspension with pay are for a 9/14/12 meeting which coincides with the timing of Mike Cucci's very public, sketchy description of a "leave" for Mr. D'Angelo.
Just saying....
Time will tell folks, time will tell... It all eventually comes out.
Tonight I was at a last of summer bbq with a cross section of FL, Mand, Wantagh El and Bellmore folks. Not even going to repeat the speculation I heard (one alleged account which makes a heckuva lot of sense putting the pieces of this puzzle together).

The whole situation doesn't make any sense. How does a superintendent get himself into this much trouble after 2 months on the job? This guy has a PhD and has been a superintendent/administrator for 10+ years. I dont believe the rumors that he had "problems" in Skaneateles. We will see.

He doesn't have a Ph.D but I don't think he had problems upstate....I think Wantagh gave him a big headache....probably didn't realize what kind of community we were when he took the job.

The comments part of the Wantagh Patch story indicate that these juvenile deliquent bullies are still running amock in the Middle School and had prior know problems...The comments also indicated that the parent of the head hoodlum works for the school district....Something smells rotten with Mr. Cucci and the rest of the BOE...Why didn't the principal of the Middle School do something more with these kids??? Maybe he needs to go as well, right after the BOE resigns....Time for an independent body, other than the BOE, to investigate the practices at the school district...Maybe we can even get an indepentent audit committee.....After this, makes me wonder if people were playing with the financial books.....So much for Wantagh's good name...Wonder how much the value of my home went down because of this? ?

@ lilly - please share the thoughts of others in the community. I think we should all be interested in how we are viewed at this point and time.
Thanks.

@mandalay, not really my place to share thoughts & speculation of others for this particular situation, not right now - and not when it concerns the livelihood and reputation of a *person* who came to us with a stellar reputation but "exited" (lolol) the district.
You did ask how we are viewed at this point. You live here too. I'd say the patch article that reports on the timeline of Wantagh having 5, count'em FIVE supers between Sept. 26, 2011 (Lydia Begley's last day) through Sept. 19th (Maureen Goldberg starts) would be a big fat clue. That's five supers in, technically speaking, less than a year - 358 days. How do you think that is viewed?
Why don't you post YOUR view?

i'd still would like an update if these bullies are still in the classroom??? If so, Wantagh residents should get their media friends back to ask the BOE when these kids will be removed....It seems like the BOE will only respond to media pressure, and not resident taxpayer pressure....They should be at least pumping out press reports keeping everyone updated as to what is happening with this situation....The comments after the Patch article indicate these bullies have a long history of being problematic....Get them out of our school system!!!!

In a previous comment I said that the community cannot accept the BOE explanation of having 5 superintendents in one calendar year. We cannot let this issue slide while we wait for the next update. We cannot wait for the next BOE meeting to be told we are still not able to speak.
It is now that the community should write to BOE demanding answers. We are now paying two superintendent salaries. We are now paying a department chair a principal’s salary. We are now paying investigators to do what we already paid for when the new super was hired.
Where is this money coming from? Aren’t we at least entitled to that kind of explanation? Come on BOE members stand up and show the transparency you continually advocate but do not follow through on

Good suggestion bnjasper. The BOE email add'y is BOE@wantaghschools.org.
Speaking of transparency or lack thereof, there was something in BOE minutes early September about revamping the BAC. All BAC documents have been deleted from the district website. That is all the BAC recommendations for full day kindergarten, better transparency with # analysis, reinstate the arts programs (for several years running they have ignored that one), etc., etc. etc.

Guess the Wantagh BOE dictatorship is done with giving the community any type of updates...It appears they are holed-up in their bunker.....I hope the bullies are getting a quality education....
