This MONDAY, AUGUST 1st is the VOTE concerning the new Nassau Coliseum. I have learned that the polls will be open from 6AM to 9 PM on Monday. There do not appear to be any changes to the polling places in Wantagh.
I am posting this under the tab for District...Budget Discussions primarily because the results of this (County) vote will determine approval for the County to spend $400 Million of your tax dollars; the same tax dollars for which the school district will be vying from your wallet over the years to come.
Certainly there are pros and cons to this proposition. I am not advocating vote yes or vote no, but I am advocating: VOTE! It is YOUR money in the balance, and regardless of how this goes, if YOU do not VOTE, then YOU have nothing to complain about concerning the results.
Personally, I will be voting 'No', as I can not really afford to retire and sustain my existing tax burden. But you have to evaluate your own situation when deciding how to vote on this.
On MONDAY, exercise Your Right to VOTE!

I'm curious as to Mangano's back-up plan which he won't disclose until after this vote.
The stats according to Newsday are:
If yes, tax increase estimated between +$13.80 (Office of Budget Review, non-partisan) to +$58 (NIFA).
If no, tax increase of +$16 from loss of revenue.
Of note, whatever the Nassau County Legislature has to do with this, if anything, is highly suspect. They are a dysfunctional embarrassment.
And saving my tax $ for school increases? lololol School tax increases go to unsustainable pension and benefit increases, not maintaining kid programs (see massive cuts to the non-sports kid programs). Each year $'s spent on kids erodes except sports but not nearly enough to offset the increases in salary & benefits. Soon (or are we there already?), we'll look like a bonehead district catering to a certain type of kid only.
This stuff brings out the cynic in me.

Low voter turnout, LIRR delays and some rain. Nassau, the highest taxed county in the nation, voted no.

Several remarks I overheard while voting at Wantagh El...
...focused on the expensive August voting date.
Two people in my office said they may have voted Yes, except for the August voting date.

Well, school votes cost us $10k so I'm assuming the county picked up this ~$10k tab? And who paid for the Wantagh security guard?

I was told yesterday by a spokesperson for the NC Legislature that the budget transfer to the County Board of Elections (to pay for the August vote) will not be made until after the November elections...you know, to avoid any misunderstandings.
