I suspect this may be some kind of 'poison pill' intended to reduce the chances that the Town of Hempstead Water Authority will take over Aqua.
Just thinking out loud.

This will KILL our property vallues. We need to convas our neighborhoods with flyers to raise awareness. The letters from the town on the matter were probably thrown in the trash. Any suggestions on how else to get the word out there? Concerns should be filed immediately (prior to the first hearing on June 29) at www.toh.li/content/bz/formba.html or by mail at Mr. David Weiss Chairman of the Board of Appeals One Washington Street Hempstead, NY 11550

Nice work chili1919. If they can stop the cell tower, we can stop this. What an eyesore it would be.

What are the linkages and contingencies between these two cases?
In other words, if either application is turned down does that kill the project? Do both applications have to be approved in order for this project to go forward?
I suspect that, if they get the two buildings approved, one of which is a well, then they will claiming that they MUST have the tower approved also, or they will have no place to store the water from the new well.

I have no clue if they are linked, nor does Dave Denenberg's office, whom I spoke with this morning. They are aware of the situation and will be at Wednesday's hearing to ask for an adjournment. Aqua has not yet held a community information session which is what they'd like to see happen. They have already contacted the Town Appeals Board to let them know of their plans.

Good point. The first meeting needs to be a fact-finding mission too. If this bears out, the first meeting is as important as the water tower one in July.

Dave Denenberg's office plans to be there and plans to ask for an adjournment until Aqua New York holds a community information session on the project.

That is good news. If they approve the first, they may be more inclined to approve the tower. We need to stop this dead in it's tracks.

Exactly!
The BZA should be asked to put both cases on the calendar at the same time.
Has anyone spoken with the Water Authority about this?

Got this from Pam N who led the cell tower campaign: _________________ Received notice from the Wantagh Seaford Homeowners Assoc and Fred Parola that the hearing is to be adjourned tomorrow by CONSENT until Aug 10th. It looks like it will be a long ordeal so we do not have to go down tomorrow but be prepared for at least two more dates. SAVE THE DATE JULY12 looks like the date for the community meeting about the water tower- as soon as I receive the details I will forward them to all of you (probably at 7pm at Wantagh High School but not definite). If all the groups can get the word out we can have a wonderful showing against these water towers!!!!!! Thank you everyone for your interest and concern! _____________________

The following email was sent out today. It has important 'save the date' info with NEW DATES. ******************* Please note that adjournments will be requested for both Aqua June 29th and July 27th buildings and water tower hearing dates to allow sufficient time for a community meeting beforehand as well as possibly combining both hearings into one date. Instead, there are two new 'save the date' pieces of information which replaces yesterday's email. Tuesday, July 12th Community meeting Wantagh High School Auditorium Time to be confirmed (7:00 likely) Wednesday, August 10th Potential new zoning board hearing date Bennett Pavillion, 1 Washington Street, Hempstead Time to be confirmed (either 10:00 or 2:00) We will do our best to send confirming or change emails prior to these events. However, please check the thread on proboards for changing or late-breaking information. wantaghsd.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=otwantagh&action=display&thread=469As a reminder if you haven't done so already, please file your comments with the zoning board. This can be done in writing or more easily online. All comments received prior to the close of the public hearing are made part of the record. ****************************

Saw this in this morning's Newsday: www.newsday.com/long-island/nassau/activists-uneasy-over-water-tower-proposal-1.2992217Activists uneasy over water tower proposal Published: June 28, 2011 9:08 PM By AISHA AL-MUSLIM aisha.al-muslim@newsday.com Community activists in Wantagh and Seaford are nervously watching two development proposals for a site on DeMott Avenue in Wantagh. While plans to construct two one-floor buildings aren't bothering nearby residents, a proposal for a 150-foot-tall water tower has generated worries about visual pollution that could negatively impact property values. Aqua New York, Inc., a nongovernmental water company, submitted the construction project proposals to the Town of Hempstead Board of Appeals for the site just west of the Seaford Oyster Bay Expressway and east of Temple Drive. The first application sought by Aqua is for construction of the buildings for chemical, electrical and water-well operations. A second application calls for the water tower, which the company said is needed to address persistent low water-pressure problems in the area. Aqua has already received New York State Public Service Commission approval for the tower, but it is up to the town board of appeals to make the final decision about whether the projects go forward. The first of two planned public hearings before the board is scheduled for Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the Nathan L.H. Bennett Pavilion adjacent to Hempstead Town Hall. The board will hold a separate hearing about the tower on July 27. Ella Stevens, president of the Wantagh/Seaford Homeowners Association, said a representative of the group will request that Wednesday's hearing be adjourned and combined with the July 27 hearing. The association also wants the July hearing postponed to give the community more time to study and discuss the proposals. "We are looking to schedule a meeting with the community and Aqua," Stevens said. "I want them to hear the community's feeling on the proposals." The appeals board has asked Aqua to hold a "well-publicized" community meeting on the water tower proposal, but left it up to Aqua's discretion. ##

The July 12th community meeting about the proposed water tower is confirmed.
See press release below:

WANTAGH RESIDENTS PREPARE TO DO BATTLE AGAINST PROPOSED
AQUA NEW YORK WATER TOWER
Wantagh, NY – June 29, 2011 – Wantagh residents, the Wantagh Civic Association and the Wantagh-Seaford Homeowners’ Association are preparing to do battle once again in an effort to preserve the aesthetics and character of their community. Residents are angered by Aqua New York’s proposed 150 foot elevated storage tank on DeMott Avenue .
Aqua New York presently has two applications pending before the Town of Hempstead’s Board of Appeals. The hearing date for both applications is now scheduled for Wednesday, August 10, 2011 after initiatives by the Wantagh-Seaford Homeowners’ Association to adjourn the original June 29, 2011 and July 27, 2011 hearing dates.
According to Aqua New York, the first application requests construction of two small buildings to house a new well and water treatment and purification equipment. The second application is for the elevated storage tank on the DeMott Avenue property. The company claims, “This new tank would greatly improve water pressure across Aqua’s entire system—including that used for fighting fires—and increase the overall service reliability.”
However, residents believe the company could easily erect a pump rather than an unsightly tower that will undoubtedly affect the aesthetics of the community, and decrease home values. Further, fears that the tower will house future cell installations remains high given the community’s recent opposition to the proposed cell tower on the Farmingdale Wantagh Jewish Center.
Aqua New York will be holding a community meeting on Tuesday, July 12, 2011 at 7 p.m. in the auditorium at the Wantagh High School located on Beltagh Avenue
The Wantagh Civic Association and the Wantagh-Seaford Homeowners’ Association are urging residents to attend this meeting to voice their concerns and opposition to the erection of the proposed water tower, as well as the Town of Hempstead’s Board of Appeals hearing.
For more information, please contact: Ella Stevens, Wantagh-Seaford Homeowners’ Association, 516-409-1645 or the Wantagh Civic Association via J9 Public Relations, 516-557-2695.
