1,479-1,278 You just can't trust what you think ""The Community"" is trying to say. I guess they now know when "No" means "No". Seaford twice defeated their budget, the second time after it had been cut to almost the same level as austerity. Yet they, Seaford voters, re-elected the President and Vice President of their school board, two of the guys responsible to produce an acceptable budget. For the students of Seaford, this is tragic. For us here, in Wantagh, with a 2% tax cap nearing reality in Albany, Seaford has told (yet another) cautionary tale. Amazed... Chris Wendt PS - Westbury failed their $109-Million budget by a ridiculous 63 votes with voter turnout LESS THAN 1,200 PEOPLE! Newsday.com reported: "Westbury's revised $109-million spending plan -- down $692,624 from the original budget -- would have raised spending 3.53 percent and the property-tax levy 3.17 percent. The budget plan was defeated 630-567."

The budget vote vs. BOE election seems contradictory.
And reading the Newsday/patch comments, it seems like Seaford voters were just po'd about the ~8% under either scenario compounded by the generous contract the teachers wouldn't re-visit. (Thanks again Wantagh teachers.)
Do budget votes really matter? Seriously... It's kind of sports or little/no sports is what is being voted on. Strike that, that applies to Wantagh only. Seaford used to maintain programs for all kids, unlike Wantagh's poor record on that.

Seaford BoE has a Special Meeting on Wednesday in the High School. I think they will be presenting their final program cuts, and the new rules about charging organizations for use of their facilities under the contingent budget they will adopt, presumably at that meeting.
I will be interested to see whether they will be retaining Full-day Kindergarten, as they had promised to do.
Any bets on that?
