You gotta love school superintendents and their lawyers! You will hear/read about the Jericho School District Superintendent "taking" a 5-year pay freeze, splashed all over Newsday the other day. But before you start considering this to be some magnanimous gesture made in sympathy for Jericho's poor, beleaguered (actually, fat & wealthy) taxpayers, apply some critical thinking. By "taking" a 5-year salary freeze now, the Jericho Superintendent has masterfully accomplished two things strictly in his own selfish interest: - He has secured his job in Jericho for the next FIVE years!
- He has dodged the pending Superintendent Pay Cap by inculcating his current salary--which is WAAAY over that cap--into contract language which is unassailable by an pay-cap legislation for the next FIVE years!
Extra! Extra! Read All About It! www.newsday.com/long-island/nassau/jericho-school-chief-accepts-5-year-freeze-1.2960447Can't you hear Meatloaf singing, up in Jericho, four years from now: "I'm praying for the end of time... ...so I can end my time with you!" Not amused, Chris Wendt
