Has anyone else noticed that the average % step increases keeps DECREASING? Last year, the #'s quoted to the BAC were 3.5% annual raise plus 2.7% average step = +6.2% average teacher raise. This year, it was announced to the BAC that the step increase was ~2.5% (tree4... had the exact # on a post here) and the average teacher raise was more like +5.9%. In Newsday the other day, Lydia Begley was quoted that the step increase was 2.2%. (I know #'s are not necessarily her forte.) I realize average step changes each year (they are based on teacher years of service and increased degree/teaching credits). But, I was thinking.... Since the quoted #'s seem to go down every time the district talks about them, we simply should have waited it out to save a whole lot of taxpayer $. In fact, we didn't even have to have protracted teacher contract negotiation. Another few months and the quoted step raise would definitely fall to ~1.9%. Lolololol. I am being totally facetious here. But, what is up with these ever eroding step increases? Seriously, if these #'s are to be believed, what was all the fuss about?
