Actually, the title of this post is May Day, not MAYDAY!
More to the point, Happy May Day, everyone!
I don't know if they (we, anybody) even does this any more...celebrate May Day, particularly is school. I am positive we don't celebrate May Day in school on a Sunday.
I have some distant, faded, but not too cloudy memory of May Day when I was in First Grade, at the Sunrise Park Elementary School in Wantagh, back in 1953. There was a "May Pole", it seemed very tall to us 6 & 7 year-olds. From the top of the May Pole long colored crepe paper streamers came down. The teacher played music on a Victrola, and each of us kids took the end of one of the colored streamers and we all danced around the May Pole together.
It was warm out, and even for the boys dancing outside in the school yard seemed better than sitting in a stuffy classroom on a beautiful day, very much like I think this one will be.
Any how, Happy May Day, and may yours be filled with sunshine, warmth, and some those flowers promised by all the April showers!
(Oh, "Made you look!").
Of course, nowadays the next big deal this month is Cinco de Mayo, May Fifth, later this week. More on that...then.

Well, it certainly was a historic May Day (or mayday) yesterday.
