The Board of Education adopted the 2011-12 Budget to be submitted to the voters on May 17th...$70 Million in round numbers, less than 2 percent budget-to-budget increase with projected tax levy implications under 4%. All things considered, well done!
The Board of Education and the WUT report a tentative Agreement was reached at 3 AM, Thursday morning. The Agreement is subject to ratification by the Teachers Union membership and then officially by the Board of Education at a public meeting. This development, and its ultimate ratification by both sides, is critical to the district being able to get their budget passed, because having this major contract settled will provide much needed "certainty" (credibility) to the budget and its tax implications.
I do not know any of the terms of the tentative Agreement, so I cannot say anything about it, good or bad. However, their having come this far and wrapping up negotiations and mediation before the budget vote is also a job well done by the leadership of the District and by the leadership of the union...presuming mutual ratification of the deal.
