...or so it would appear.
This is actually a big week. Big, but quiet so far.
I was speaking with Tom Vereline last week, and as I understand it, this week will be the last mediation session between the District and the WUT.
Thursday is an important Board of Education Monthly Business Meeting. Will there be news from the mediation session? How will the budget come down?
Waiting with baited breath...

Is this Thursday the last chance for the BOE to change the budget? If so we should have lots of interested parties speaking at the meeting. My major concern is that the impasse could last for years, without some state intervention.

At some point in time not less than 24 days before the budget vote, the budget must be 'locked down' and adopted in a public meeting which will probably occur tomorrow night, which is 33 days before the budget vote.. The mandatory public budget hearing is not scheduled until May 5th, but the board can not change the budget at that time. If the voters are not kindly disposed to passing the budget on May 17th, then board would have one last chance to change it, before a second vote in June.
The Library budget passed last night, but there was a surprisingly large percentage of 'No' votes on a relatively non-controversial package. I heard something like 100 Yes to 80 No, in very round numbers. Pitifully small turnout, but with a curious block of absentee ballots voting 'No'.
As far as the impasse goes, who knows. If they settle the impasse tonight, for example, then the budget would have to be changed--before it is adopted--to reflect the settlement terms.
Musing, while keeping my powder dry,
