Duval County, Florida, School District, which includes all of Jacksonville and its suburbs is ending high school sports in the face of a $97 Million budget shortfall. This will leave 15,000 kids with no teams on which to play any sport next year. This will also impact high schools in neighboring Nassau and St. Johns Counties, many of whom regularly play against schools in Duval County.
Other actions being actively considered to relieve their budget shortage include going to a 4-day school week as well as increasing class sizes.
