I still didn't get a chance to read the Newsday's cover story on teacher contracts yet, but just next door:Bellmore-Merrick CHSD Teachers, Administrators Accept Pay Freeze Both unions declined contractual pay raises for 2011-2012 school year. merrick.patch.com By Emily Jane Cappiello March 25, 2011 The Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District Board of Education opened Wednesday’s budget meeting with the news that teachers and administrators voted to decline their contracted raises for the 2011-2012 school year. According to Superintendent Dr. Henry Kiernan, this will save the district about $840,000. “We are very proud of what [the teachers] are doing in order to help with this budget,†Kiernan said. This is good news. I couldn't open the attachment, is that steps, contract increase or both? (I'd assume contract increase only? If so, not a hard freeze but does show there is contract flexibility.)
