Several people emailed asking what happened at the 5/8 meeting so I'll post it here.
Beyond the usual alpha-numeric agenda run-through there was:
2006/07 District Report Card by Dr. Begley Wantagh NCLB and Regents test scores - without comparisons to other districts, all appear fine & strong with a weakness in Math B.
2008/09 Budget Discussion - Q&A, comments Per Mr. Christie, the 8% increases were driven by fuel, special ed and debt.
The "blended" rate increase between the proposed budget and a contingency or "austerity" budget for the average Wantagh household is $500 and $250, respectively. Monthly, the difference is either a $20-25 or $40-45 increase.
Per Dr. Bonuso and company, if on contingency/"austerity", spending will be $1.5m lower than the proposed $64.7m budget. Typically, priorities for contingency budget cuts are:
1) Sports 2) Extracurriculars 3) Staffing
Also, a comment was made that the campuses go dark meaning no practice or field and court time for non-Wantagh Schools play.
Just the facts as I interpreted them. If anything needs to be corrected or added, please contribute here.
