SEPTA issued the following today:
________________________
Dear SEPTA Members, Families, and Wantagh Community-
It is with much regret that we write this email.
As you know, the Wantagh School District unit of the New York State Parent Teacher Association known as Wantagh SEPTA, the Supportive Education and Horizons PTA, has had a long and meaningful role in lives of our children, in all ranges of support.
As in any organization, interest and participation is a vital piece of the puzzle in bringing and maintaining successful outcomes for the group.
In our years of leadership roles, we have provided much support for the families of Wantagh through regular meetings, special presentations, as well as financial support for students and district programs such PARISS, and high school senior scholarship presentations.
In the last few years, support for SEPTA has seemed to waver on many levels, parental involvement being one area of decreased attention to the needs of the organization.
At this time, we feel that it is time for us to step down as co-presidents and is time for new leadership to emerge from the community and step into our roles in order for SEPTA to continue to be the vital organization it must to continue to enhance the lives and education of our children.
Thank you for having allowed us the opportunity to lead SEPTA in service of our children and their families.
Unfortunately at this point in time, all SEPTA functions going forward will be cancelled unless someone in the Wantagh community steps up to volunteer their time and take on the leadership role of the organization.
Should you have an interest in taking on the leadership role of this organization, please contact Karin Hennessy at 516-644-0367 or Mr. Louis Hirschfield at the Wantagh Schools PPS Department at 516-781-1452 for further guidance in the organizational details in order to keep SEPTA up and running.
Respectfully yours,
Karin Hennessy and MaryBeth Reindl
Wantagh SEPTA Co-Presidents
