Does anyone know what impact, if any, the cell phone tower regulation / legislation that is set to pass the Town of Hempstead legislature will have on the cell towers that already exist in Wantagh (especially those close to our schools)? Thanks

Law passed today. But I just read on the TOH website that the new law stipulates: "No NEW cell towers shall be located closer than 1500 feet to a home or a school." So it doesn't look like it applies to existing structures like the cell tower across the street from the Wantagh High School / Middle School (at th TOH animal shelter). Any ideas on how we may get this redressed?

justasking, the town hearing for the FWJC cell tower application is Oct. 6th (I think). There may be a q&a at the end for this question. As I drive thru Wantagh since the issue surfaced, I notice there are lots of these attached to telephone poles and such.
Congrats to Pam and all the others to get the new regs approved yesterday. The fed regs really need to be updated. 1996 is prehistoric times in today's technology age.

Lilly, only one problem, the town is saying any existing application would not be subject to the new regulations. THE FWJC is a proposing to add 6 antenna, which will be within 50 feet of residental properties. If the TOH Board approves this permit, we need to take it out on them during the next election, as they truely don't care about our community.

In response to Mike T:
Some politicians care about the community, indeed, most do, but they all care more about getting elected and reelected. That is why the Town Council passed regulations that they think the people will like even thought they probably know that they will do more harm than good. Under the new regulations it will be almost impossible for T-Mobile to get those new antennas approved. In the long run that kind of thing will hurt the people of the Town of Hempstead, and at no time will it really do anybody any good.
In response to lilly:
Was is really "prehistoric" is the general public's all-too-often lack of understanding of the science upon which so much of modern technology is based, and the willingness of so much of the public to get their technical information via unqualified filters rather than from knowledgeable science professionals. To too much of the public, on matters of science, a BA in "BS" is more reliable than a PhD in physics.
