Has anybody heard that next year they are combining the 7th and 8th grade sports teams? This will eliminate at least 20 kids per sport when this happens and the results will be devastating. What are the savings monetarily when weighed against the effects it has on our student athletes?? It is not bad enough that the Wantagh Little League pays for and maintains all of the baseball and softball fields at all of the schools and the bond did not include one penny for these fields because they know the Little league will pay for it. Now they want to combine ALL of the 7th and 8th grade sports teams.....maybe they are looking for the little league and Wantagh Football club to supplement all of these sports teams. Has this issued been posted anywhere besides the letter given to the coaches at the school???

Having 7th and 8th grade sports teams is only in recent few years. It was a relatively new offering. I think the superintendents and Dr. Stern have been telling the parents about the change.
Given a new $4m gym, new $2m+ field (I recently heard the field is over budget) and new sports equipment in the annual budget for that new field, it doesn't feel like Wantagh school sports is that deprived especially when academic items are underfunded (replacing outdated text books and technology, loss of agendas for all kids in the middle school and probably high school). There's Little League, Football Club, PAL, CYO and travel teams to supplement the 7th and 8th graders.
As for the "price" of the Little League maintaining the fields, I've heard that the kids who attend these schools are not allowed to play on the Little League maintained fields during recess. That doesn't seem right to me either.
