My two boys are into Volleyball - which takes a lot of time, money and commitment, since they compete Regionally and Nationally.

How about having a school that serves all students and not just a select few!

Who cares if the sports are cut and 7th and 8th grade is combined! This AD doesn't care if our children are coached. The current AD lets the coaches yell and scream at the kids and act unprofessionally being a bad influence on our children. The school has lived by this policy of rewarding the few and leaving the rest behind. It is the most degrading philosophy one could imagine. The worst part is that we all sit back and let it go on! When will we develop all our players and stop rewarding only the few! All the children playing should be utilized. It is just wrong to have favorites. The message the current AD and the coaches he is responsible for are sending the wrong message to our children. Someone of authority must step in! All the children must be giving the opportunity to participate. Why do we let this happen? There are only a few people who are actually affected here.

I'm not sure why you have such anger towards our present AD. It sounds like you have an issue that you should discuss with him on a 1:1 basis. If you have a concern about a coach, please go to our AD. He will listen and he will look into your concerns. Please give him another chance.

our kids, Why the Ad, well who is in charge? That is the root of all problems no one wants to be accountable. Go to most any game and watch what goes on and see for yourself. The current philosophy is to get the "best" kids whether it is by skill or some other political means then play them for the whole game. It doesn't matter if they are exhausted or if the rest of the team sits on the side line. The point being is when will we start showing our kids they are all a valuable part of the team and utilize them as such? If so we will then have a far better outcome for all? The Ad has to make sure this happens. I know this has been passed down from the previous AD but that doesn't change the responsibility of the current AD. I might sound angry but I am actually not. I'm just trying to get my message across and I feel most people have become convinced that this policy of only playing a few is just the way it is supposed to be. It is not, it is wrong as far as I'm concerned and if others would voice there concerns maybe it would change. Or maybe others feel it is OK for everyone to pay for a budget that in reality only serves a few! I will hope you and others would respond here and give me a reason to think differently.

Wantagh Citizen - My children participate in sports and I don't agree that only the best kids play across the board. Your personal experiences may not be good ones, but I don't think it takes place on every sport team in our district. I still believe that our AD is someone who wants people to come to him with concerns. If you don't speak to him directly about your concerns, you can't say he is not acting in a responsible way. Give it a shot!

ourkids, I have 4 kids playing various sports in this school and I do speak of my personal experiences , my own observations and I did say most sports not all. Which, in my opinion is the generally accepted practice of this school. I also am fortunate to say my children have not experienced the rejection of standing on the sideline. That doesn't change my belief that all kids should be utilized. I feel it is the responsibility of the school to let everyone contribute to the team. The message this AD is sending by allowing these coaches to continue with this philosophy is not in the best interest of all students. This contradicts the core principles for which team sports in school were designed for!
A sports program is supposed to provide an avenue for our children to build self esteem, respect, working as a group, etc. All the kids on the team need to see this, not just the few players. Do you believe we are accomplishing these goals?
I find it very hard to watch friends(parents) of mind who's children never see the field on game day!
As for contacting the AD, I thought this message board was run by the school? The Athletic Dept. must be looking at these replies?

To wantaghcitizen,This is a community message board and is not in any way affiliated with the Wantagh School District as it states on the top of the posts....I would take your issue up directly with the School District Athletic Director.

Enough said...I hope I got my message across. It is all of my own observations and if I am the only one who feels this way so be it. Thanks
