In reverse order, here are the Top 10 Reasons to seek re-election to the school board...
10. Hey, that's what being an incumbent is all about! Why do you think the other school board members made me President this year?
(The other 9 reasons will be posted over the next 9 days...to build a little interest, anticipation, curiosity, and questions, like, Say, is that really true? How does he know that? Why would he say that unless it was true?)
Stay tuned.

Goldilocks will be returning soon from Orlando, where she had gone for a short vacation. While visiting Disney World, she was offered a full-time job as a Character, namely, herself, which she thought would be fun to try. Imagine, getting paid for being yourself?
The gig was getting old after four months, lost most of its challenge. Over Spring Break she ran across Glenda, the Auditor from the Office of the Comptroller of the State of New York who was standing on the line for the Tower of Terror. Goldilocks spied Glenda first, came up behind her tapped her smartly on the shoulder and said, "My, my, my...Glenda!"
"Goldilocks? Is that really YOU, dressed up as...Goldilocks...here in Disney World? Dang!"
"Yeah, it's me, bored to death of being...myself all of the time! Great to see you...What are YOU doing here, at the Tower of Terror?"
"Oh, the Comptroller of the State of New York insists that all of his school district auditors take an annual sojourn to the Tower of Terror, you know, so we all become intimately familiar with terror and how to strike fear in the hearts of mortal school officials."
"Say, Glenda, I've been seriously thinking about returning North..."
"Not another word, Goldi...pack your bags tomorrow and on Thursday you can hitch a ride with me back North! We got some big going's-on that'll be happening up there any time now!"

Top 10 Reasons for Seeking Re-Election to the School Board
10. Hey, that's what being an incumbent is all about! Why do you think the other school board members made me President this year?
9. This reason can best be explained by the following direct quote: “Do you know what the difference is between us, Chris? You (Chris) are all about saving money…I (the incumbent, seeking re-election) am all about spending money!” (The incumbent to Chris, 2006)
(The other 8 reasons will be posted over the next 8 days...to build a little interest, anticipation, curiosity, and questions, like, Say, is that really true? How does he know that? Why would he say that unless it was true?)

Not me, not now... Top 10 Reasons for Seeking Re-Election to the School Board: 10. Hey, that's what being an incumbent is all about! Why do you think the other school board members made me President this year? 9. This reason can best be explained by the following direct quote: “Do you know what the difference is between us, Chris? You (Chris) are all about saving money…I (the incumbent, seeking re-election) am all about spending money!” (The incumbent to Chris, 2006) 8. As President of the School Board, (the incumbent, seeking re-election) gets to spend a lot of money… As Executive Director of the “”educational”” “”foundation””, (the incumbent, seeking re-election) gets to spend a lot of money… As President of the School Board AND as Executive Director of the “”educational”” “”foundation”” both at the same time, (the incumbent, seeking re-election) gets to spend lots and lots of money! (The other 7 reasons will be posted over the next week...to build on the interest, heighten the anticipation, and pique the curiosity, maybe with questions, like, 'Say, is that really true?', or, 'How does he know that?', and, 'Why would he say that unless it was true?' Be honest, you must have asked yourself at least one of these questions already! Right? Right!) Watch this space! Chris Wendt

It's clear to me that we need a change on the School Board. Beside the clear conflicts of interest with the current President there is no indication of fiscal responsibility or genuine caring for the kids. We need a new face. I'll be voting for Bob. Ducky

There are a number of ways to effect change, and there are any number of reasons why change should be undertaken. You started me humming "Fifty Ways to Leave Your Lover...": "Just drop-off the key, Lee and set yourself free" or, "Hop on the bus, Gus...don't need to discuss much"; "No need to be coy, Roy...Make a new plan, Stan..." etc.
Yet, while there must be 50 ways to leave one's lover, there are only Ten that qualify as THE TOP TEN...
Top 10 Reasons for Seeking Re-Election to the School Board:
8. As President of the School Board, (the incumbent, seeking re-election) gets to spend a lot of money…
As Executive Director of the “”educational”” “”foundation””, (the incumbent, seeking re-election) gets to spend a lot of money…
As President of the School Board AND as Executive Director of the “”educational”” “”foundation”” both at the same time, (the incumbent, seeking re-election) gets to spend lots and lots of money!
7. As the brother of the Treasurer of the School District AND as President of the School Board at the same time, (the incumbent who is hoping you will re-elect him) has had no trouble spending the District's money or getting money from the School District for the ""educational'' ""foundation"" of which (the incumbent, desperate for re-election) is also--at the same time--the Executive Director.
And if the ""educational"" ""foundation"" of which (the incumbent, holding his breath for re-election) is Executive Director, bounces an occasional large check to the School District...well, wouldn't that be just the kind of problem that would make having your own sister serving as the School District Treasurer really worthwhile?
(The next 6 reasons will be posted over the next six days..,building interest, heightening anticipation, and piquing curiosity, with questions, like, 'Say, is that really true?', or, 'How does he know that?', and, 'Why would he say that unless it was true?' You know that you have already asked yourself at least one of these questions already! Right? Right!)
Watch!

Postscript: Goldilocks, bags packed, has checked-out of the Disney World Character Quarters and is at this hour departing Orlando in the company of none other than Glenda, the Auditor from Office of the Comptroller of the State of New York, who herself has just completed her annual recertification on the Tower of Terror, required of all NY State School Auditors...to maintain the appropriate quotient of fear-mongering to be deployed among targeted school district officials.

Your Goldilocks installments still crack me up.
Are there any legal implications on #'s 7 and 8? Seems like too many conflicts of interest or blurred lines.

Lilly: "Are there any legal implications on #'s 7 and 8? Seems like too many conflicts of interest or blurred lines. " I am not in law enforcement nor am I a lawyer. I have no valid reference concerning what you categorize as potential "legal implications". There are processes to evaluate "legal implications", including the school district's counsel who could have rendered legal opinion before the fact, but also a variety of competent jurisdictions including the Comptroller of the State of New York, and various levels of prosecutorial agencies who could weigh-in, after the fact. Recently, I heard a rumor from a board member touching tangentially upon your question. It is vitally important that I react to both of these similar questions or rumors by stating emphatically that I am not aware of any specific "legal implications" of the nature suggested, nor am I party to any legal proceeding of any kind regarding the school district, its officers or directors. Non-existent legal implications should not be a factor in any voter's decisions on May 19th. But the next Top Ten reason could be a very good one to consider when you step into the voting booth to pull the level for one of the two candidates for the school board. Top 10 Reasons for Seeking Re-Election to the School Board: 10. Hey, that's what being an incumbent is all about! Why do you think the other school board members made me President this year? 9. This reason can best be explained by the following direct quote: “Do you know what the difference is between us, Chris? The President of the Board of Education is the de-facto and lawfully authorized spokesperson for the entire Board. Therefore, as President of the Board, (the incumbent, perhaps now having serious doubts about ever getting re-elected to anything ever again) gets to shut-off uncomfortable questions about uncomfortable topics with verbal responses such as these, heard recently from the President of our Board of Education: "Because I can..." "I can do whatever I want..." "Because we can..." "Because I said so..." "I just told you why..." "Listen, I have been very patient trying to listen to you, but you just don't want to hear what I said...." With such public speaking ""EXPERTISE""and polished communications skills as those evidenced at recent public meetings, is it any wonder why the other board members see a real necessity to hire a Public Relations firm to speak on their behalf? Could that superlative attitude and haughty manner of dealing with people explain why, at least in part, our SPED legal costs have soared in the past few years? (The Final Five reasons will be posted during the next few days...if there is interest, anticipation, or curiosity. The natural. inescapable questions, like, 'Say, is that really true?', or, 'How does he know that?', and, 'Why would he say that unless it was true?' have already been asked well over one hundred times in recent days.) Hang on, Sloopy! Sloopy, hang on! Chris Wendt PS - Goldilocks and Glenda, the auditor for the Comptroller of the State of New York stopped in Charlotte, North Carolina for dinner and a night's rest along their way back to the Suburbia School District. At the motel, they saw some brochures, and decided to take a couple of detours and spend the weekend visiting some Civil War battle fields and King's Dominion recreational park. They send the regards, and hope to be on-the-job next week.

Those of us who attended Meet the Candidates Night heard what I am ranking as the #4 Reason directly from the incumbent, seeking re-election, in response to the general question: "Why are you running for the board?"
(Number Four...Number Four...Number Four...)
Top 10 Reasons for Seeking Re-Election to the School Board:

Re Lilly: "OK, you missed an installment yesterday... ." There is an invaluable expression, "timing is everything!" The last school board meeting and budget hearing intervened, and during these past several days, I felt it was better that good feelings--and a good buzz--about the budget take center stage, without interference from me about the Top Three Reasons. This was done both out of a sense of propriety and respect for the budget and my support for getting it passed, but, also out of recognition of the seriousness of the THE TOP THREE REASONS why someone who should NOT be re-elected to the school board...should NOT be re-elected. There is a full week left in the campaign to pass the budget and dump Spagnolo, and believe me, it is absolutely IMPERATIVE to accomplish BOTH objectives. The timing issue is critical...not to "finish" way too early, and risk having people 'forget' to vote, balanced against the need to get vital information out soon enough to become viral and then get passed ALL around town, so to speak. So, with my hand 'tipped' now, here's Number 3 of the Top Ten Reasons a person who must not be re-elected to the school board should not be... 3. No, wait, it's not about SPENDING after all! It's really about REVENUE! We don't need LESS SPENDING, what we need is MORE REVENUE TO SPEND! And (completely forgetting about all the extra revenue the school district has received over the past two years, and totally IGNORING the $1.3 MILLION of Revenue the erstwhile incumbent, really sweating-out this election...just 'took back' from us taxpayers last summer...) the way to get more revenue is to call or write to our State Senator and State Assemblyman!!!! (Forgetting that BOTH of THEM are now in the Minority Party, with 'ZERO' political power up in Albany!)Yes, ladies of gentlemen and good people of Wantagh...it is JUST THAT SIMPLE...you pick up the phone, or you pick up your pen, and you ASK THE STATE LEGISLATORS FOR MORE AND MORE MONEY TO SPEND, AND AFTER THEY GET YOU MORE AND MORE MONEY AND AFTER YOU HAVE SPENT EVERY LAST DIME OF THAT... ...THEN YOU CALL 'EM UP AND ASK FOR SOME MORE MONEY! I wish Mr. Spagnolo had told me that trick when I was on the school board! We would be absolutely ROLLIN' IN DOUGH! Now, I would love to see nine or ten participants on this very board get up from your computer, and call Senator Fuschillo and ask him for more money, right now. Go ahead! Do it today! Tell him Ralph sent you! And please report back here with The Senator's Response! I'm incredulous...more incredulous than I have ever been...over the sheer, simple stupidity, in my opinion, of the incumbent's FAILED approach to solving Wantagh's fiscal problems...to just ask for more money to spend! This is what some of you may recall having been referred to at Candidates Night as "THE MAGIC WIZARD" or "MAGICAL GENIE" approach to school district finance! How has the incumbent's 'Financial Genie' (NOT "Financial Genius") approach worked? 1 Failed Bond Vote under Spagnolo 2 Failed Budget Votes under Spagnolo 1 MISERABLE YEAR ON AUSTERITY THANKS TO President Spagnolo 1 Guess..."It's anybody's guess if 'I'm all about spending money' Spagnolo's next budget will pass...or not." Ridiculous. Absolutely ridiculous....YOU DESERVE SO MUCH BETTER THAN THAT! Chris Wendt PS - If you re-elect Big Spender Spagnolo, I assure you he will spend whatever money he can get his hands on, INCLUDING TAXING YOUR PROPERTY SOME MORE!
