My friend and mentor, Ken Leib passed on Thursday. Ken was my role model when I joined the Wantagh Board of Education, having been elected to the seat on the dais from which he had retired. Ken was a brilliant man who holds several high tech patents. He was among the most well read people I have known in my lifetime. He will be missed by all who knew him, whose lives he touched and inspired. Below is Ken's obituary from today's Newsday. LEIB - Kenneth G., of Wantagh, joined his sisters in eternal life on November 5, 2015. Ken was an engineer at Grumman Aerospace specializing in laser research. He served as a Sergeant in the USMC in WWII in the Pacific theater. He was a Master Mason of the Masonic Order, Past President of the Wantagh School Board and the Gen Slocum Memorial Association. He is survived by his beloved wife Jean, his children Trudi Batcher (Jim), John Leib and Nancy Pisani (Allen) and his grandchildren Jayme, Alisa and Valerie Batcher. The family will receive visitors at Wantagh Abbey Inc, 3374 Park Avenue, Wantagh, NY Saturday and Sunday 2-4 and 7-9, Funeral will be Monday 9:45am at Christ Lutheran Church, 3384 Island Road, Wantagh. Interment with military honors will follow at All Faith's Cemetery, Middle Village, NY. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to woundedwarriorproject.org or Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society (nmcrs.org). - See more at: www.legacy.com/obituaries/newsday/obituary.aspx?n=kenneth-leib&pid=176377781&fhid=22108#sthash.Q8b6EKBG.dpuf With sadness, Chris Wendt
