The NY State Budget has passed, on time, again.
Time to set aside the excuses...the Board of Education now needs to set things right with the taxpayers of Wantagh and hold the line on taxes this year.
Hold the line, as in no tax levy increase this time around.
Seriously,

Oh, the math?
State Pension Payments $1.3 MILLION lower next year! State Aid Revenue UP $947,663 over last year!
That is a favorable swing of $2.2 MILLION in the district's cash flow.
All the taxpayers are asking for is...NOTHING...a zero tax increase.
C'mon already!

Has the school district released any preliminary numbers or were they waiting on the budget? Or were they too busy calling with two hour delayed openings?
And wasn't the pension smoothed out so in prior year's the increase wasn't as large? And therefore we would have to pay more in subsequent years?
And don't we have a ton of reserves as per previous posts?
It should at least be interesting

I think this is a subject many people can agree upon.
This budget certainly has the potential to be a watershed moment for the BoE to play fair with the taxpayers and hold the line on taxes, given the several years and $15 million in over-taxation we have experienced recently, plus our acquiescence and outright support for every school budget for many years, including through all those years where we taxpayers had to swallow bitter pills of outrageous pension cost increases.
