There was an issue raised after the Board of Education Business Meeting was adjourned on Wednesday. While the issue tangentially involved football, it was actually a "Personnel Matter". Yes, there were a lot of people present, maybe 175 or maybe a thousand, I mean it was a whole lot of people who all wanted to publicly discuss football, er, I mean a "Personnel Matter" in public, with the school board. Now, the only proper response from the dais, at the first hint of the public attempting to goad the school board into a public discussion of a "Personnel Matter" would have been: "That it a 'Personnel Matter', and the Board of Education cannot discuss "Personnel Matters" in public or with the public." Since Football was not on the agenda, and since the meeting had been 'adjourned', that response, being about an operational matter, and NOT a policy matter, should have come immediately from the Superintendent of Schools. The same response should have greeted each and every attempt by any member of the public to raise this issue and elicit an (improper) response from the Board members. Each and every Board member should have obeyed the law and complied with their own existing policy NOT TO DISCUSS "PERSONNEL MATTERS" IN PUBLIC. The Superintendent should have shut down that discussion and kept a tight lid on it, and all five board members should have backed him up and kept silent on the issue. Silent. Someone later indicated on this blog that they were embarrassed for the board. Since the only embarrassment in this issue was the board's own embarrassment for letting themselves get drawn-in to an improper discussion of this "Personnel Matter", I can only assume that writer to have probably been one of the five board members. Embarrassment piling on top of embarrassment. There is a flag down. 5-Yard penalty for failing to properly anticipate this scene, and loss of down for failure to prepare for how to NOT DISCUSS A 'PERSONNEL MATTER' in public. Third and long. If having a good season, making it to the playoffs, is the primary justification for retention of a coach, then Joe Paterno would have gone out a much happier man, with his cleats on, so to speak. Again you dont have a clue about this.. this isnt even about football You brought the group of people and thier concerns into your full day kindergarten coversation. You used them to get your points across. I responded with what really happened and you took that piece and turned it around on another board member and what she did wrong., Even so much as accusing her as writing this..According to all your fancy rules that you are aware of from being on the board.
These people along with myself have never been on the board and most of them have never been to a board meeting before. Now they will probably never come back. So please put your friendship aside.
Some facts for you. Our president never made an attempt to respond appropriatly or control the people from asking the same question. it was addressed with We cant discuss anything.
example> When asked about the status of our football team and coach Why was it not addressed with a simple answer like Our football team and coach remain as they were since the beginning of the year. His contract is up in June just like every other sports coach. Honest and simple.
This was not a personnel matter that's just an excuse. If you he wanted to use that as an excuse It should of been explained to the people who dint have the knowledge that you do.(Compassion and understanding)
when he responded to my question he said I dont know anything about this. he then spoke to the patch about it telling them that letters were sent to the board because that was never said at the meeting.
When the board member got up and addressed the community,I would only think it was out of frustration along with most of the other people so laws or no laws, You should be able to communicate with the people who voted for you. As far as the group that was their they left with more uncertainty then they came with. Unnecessary uncertainty. They left with frustration and anger at the board . I left with embarrassment because I asked some of those people o come to support our kids.
It is obvious the presidents discriminatory comment when someone asked about Why have we lost all these important people while you were president? His response was People get sick in their old age. An excuse not to answer the question. By the way maybe you can answer that one?
This is not an attack on him, this is what happened at the meeting. This was not put out their for you to write a song and dance about the one board member who may have broken the law, It is about our leadership... It is about why we are in half the mess we are in.It was about People who wanted an answer not a particular answer but a straight forward answer. They left with disgust frustration and uncertainty. Oh yeah and one more thing, The people came out to support their kids football team and you don't know why so i don't know why you feel the need to comment and ridicule their comments (The one at the bottom of your post) Feel free to move this to another section because this is not about football.n This is about lack of knowledge, compassion understanding and honesty that the board president displayed to the public at the meeting. I cannot even read this drivel. Some people just really have no shame or a moral compass.
And Regina Burke, if I were a football parent, I would be soooooo po'd at you. You bring shame to them if you are representing them.

This is aboutgetting an answer to a general question and most of those parents have never been to a meeting and dont know any better. These are my opinions as Im sure you have yours.. No I am not representing anyone. Our Board president was and he failed at it. As for morals some people who are friends with him do not have to stand up at a board meeting. They can call him and get a late bus for the the kids that go to catholic school even when their are only Five kids and we need six for a late bus. Chris Wendt is turning this into a reelection amongst the candidates that all of us voted in and I really am too busy to be bothered with that nonsense..Have a great day!!

I find it fascinating that with everything going on, and going wrong, in wantagh sd, the topic that incites the most participation is football.
It really does say a lot about the community's misdirected priorities when it comes to education.
And Mr Wendt questions why we can't find an Intel finalist...perhaps it's because the children are too busy playing with footballls, baseballs, and lacrosse balls instead of calculators, books, and computers (for educational purposes).

Not necessary.
Take a vote of no confidence and begin the process to unseat each corrupt, egomaniac that is sitting on the current school board... that would be all 5 of them.

To the few people who stood up in support of Tom Casey at the BOE meeting. Only 1 of you had a kid on the team, the others didn't play for him. This isn't about winning football games, or his coaching ability. This is about his moral character, which I guess doesn't mean anything to any of you.
Read the facts on why Tom Casey was suspended for 1 full yr. without pay. Those facts go undisputed, he was giving body lotion, cd's and a $500 cell phone bill to a 16 yr. old female student. This doesn't bother anyone?? What sour grapes on my part, both of my sons played. Yes, there were issues with one of my sons, but he played.
If you have read the reasons why he was suspended, and it doesn't bother any of you then your are all shameless and self centered. The BOE is responsible for allowing this man to enter our school dist. Along with Doc Dorehty, a man convicted with DUI's. And he was up in the coaches booth all season.
The BOE has a lot to answer, especially after bring back Sachs as the baseball coach, what - now he's capable and qualified. Makes no sense, people get your priorities straight. Our kids aren't making a career in the NFL, and if they do, this is the guy you want with your sons? Me, I don't have to or will never kiss anyones butt for my kid to play. I'm not bringing munchkins on the bus, or calling the school everyday, why my son isn't the QB.

Peter, with the utmost respect, you missed the point stated in the lead post of this thread: There was an issue raised after the Board of Education Business Meeting was adjourned on Wednesday. While the issue tangentially involved football, it was actually a "Personnel Matter". Yes, there were a lot of people present...who all wanted to publicly discuss...a "Personnel Matter" in public, with the school board.
Now, the only proper response from the dais, at the first hint of the public attempting to goad the school board into a public discussion of a "Personnel Matter" would have been: "That it a 'Personnel Matter', and the Board of Education cannot discuss "Personnel Matters" in public or with the public." However, you have amply demonstrated the danger inherent when the Board of Education entertains, broaches, allows, puts-up with public discussion of personnel matters in public. Unless such discussions are promptly shut down from the dais, the Board cannot avoid, prevent, stop, or undo inappropriate accusations coming to the fore...in public. You have made an accusation, here, in public. It is not for me to challenge its veracity, although you failed to cite or publish the source of your information (thus making it technically 'unsubstantiated', or the equivalent of a rumor at this point). I am NOT inviting or challenging you to substantiate this rumor, here. That would not be appropriate. Posting that kind of information, here, was/would be neither appropriate nor helpful to your objective. What is a person to do with such information? Send it in writing, along with your source, to the Board of Education and Superintendent of Schools, but keeping it otherwise private and confidential. Only the Superintendent and Board can act upon such information, and even then, only confidentially and privately. Posting such information, here, can not bring about any action based on that information. Presenting such information (either accusatory or defensive information) verbally at a public business session of the school board will not bring the kind of action or reaction that may have been expected. I think I heard "The Board" basically guarantee Coach Casey continued employment through June, and I know I heard one Board member invite him back next year with God's blessing, you know, to make them stop already with all the comments by telling them what (that board member thought) THEY wanted to hear, there in that room, that night. Silence...is golden. I presume you have quietly mailed your information to the Board? Chris Wendt
